Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA): FEMA Recoupment Waiver

Dear friend,

Some 90,000 disaster survivors received good news earlier this week. Because of legislation that I authored and that became law last December, FEMA has developed a plan to waive recoupment of improper disaster assistance payments that were disbursed due to government error.

I hope this announcement brings great relief to Louisiana’s many honest disaster survivors, those who never intended to misuse funds or take anything to which they were not entitled. To have forced people who experienced great tragedy to pay large sums of money back to the government because of a bureaucrat’s mistake would have been incredibly unfair.

If you are a disaster survivor, please note the important details below on requesting a waiver. I will continue to work to ensure that disaster survivors are treated fairly as they continue to rebuild.

Keep in touch,
