Dear Friends of the Gulf Coast,
This week marks the two year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon explosion, where eleven oil rig workers lost their lives and resulted in one of the worst environmental disasters in history. A group of concerned citizens got together and created what would eventually become the Gulf Coast Blog and the Center for Gulf Coast Sustainability (CGCS). Today we are a full-service sustainability consulting & marketing firm dedicated to Gulf Coastal sustainable business solutions.
The Center for Gulf Coast Sustainability wants to recognize the effort of those who have contributed significantly towards sustainable development, in this region, this past year. We believe that sustainable development in the Gulf Coast states consists of community, business-economic and environmental initiatives equally. Every year CGCS will present an award to an individual or organization, for each category, that best exemplifies their commitment to this region. The recipients for 2011 are as follows:
Environmentalist of the Year 2011 – U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA)
Sustainable Business of the Year 2011 – The Proctor Dealerships, Tallahassee, FL
Spirit of Community Award 2011 – Florida Highway Patrol, c/o Trooper D.J. Watts
To nominate a candidate or organization for this year 2012 awards, please email duke@gulfcoastblog.org and tell us why you think this candidate or organization is worthy of recognition. Please include the award category and any press release or letters of recommendations if possible.
